Sometimes whānau are not able to provide children with the care needed at home. whānau caregivers play a vital role in supporting Ngāpuhi mokopuna who are in state care until it is safe for them to return to their kainga, their turangawaewae, their whānau. Based in the main centre of Kaikohe, Te Hau Ora O Ngāpuhi, also known as THOON, is charged with leading the hauora strategy for Ngāpuhi, serving whānau, hapū and hapori living within Te Whare Tapu Ō Ngāpuhi, from pēpi to kuia and kaumātua, whether Māori or non-Māori.
