Service Updates
Te Kohekohe Housing Complex Launch

We are thrilled to announce the opening of two additional stages of the Te Kohekohe housing complex, bringing the total number of units on the former Kaikohe RSA site to 47. Once fully completed, this project will offer 60 units, including one, two, and three-bedroom homes.
This milestone, celebrated at dawn last week, is a significant step towards addressing the high demand for warm and dry homes for whānau in our community. In collaboration with our partners, we identified through a survey that the lack of housing in Te Kohekohe is the town's top health issue. A warm and dry home is not just a privilege but a priority for whānau.
Reflecting on this achievement, Chief Executive Officer, Tia Ashby, shared, "Whenever I wrap myself in a blanket for warmth, I remember the whānau sleeping in their vehicles. The cold is unbearable." These words remind us of the privileges we often overlook or take for granted.
We can now provide dry and warm homes for whānau and individuals, ensuring they no longer have to endure sleeping in their vehicles. This achievement would not have been possible without the dedication and support of everyone involved. A heartfelt thank you to all those who contributed to this event.
We are honored to share that the following blocks were blessed and named:
- Block B: Totara
- Block C: Puriri
- Block D: Kahikatea
- Block E: Kauri
- Block F: Rimu
- Block I: Kowhai
- Block J: Karaka
For more information about the social housing units, please visit our office at 113 Broadway, Kaikohe (next to ASB Bank and opposite NZ Police), call 0800 48 006, or email referrals@thoon.org.nz. Our team will be happy to make an appointment to meet with you.
