Community Events - NZ Defence Force Career Information Event
What an awesome day on Thursday, 7 November 2025, at the NZ Defence Force Career Information Event held at the Kaikohe District War Memorial Hall!
Whānau had the chance to explore exciting career opportunities with the Army, Navy, and Air Force. It was inspiring to see so many people engaging with current and past NZDF members, asking questions, and learning about life in the defence forces.
Te Hau Ora O Ngāpuhi were there to support whānau with the aptitude tests, helping everyone feel prepared and confident. To top it off, attendees enjoyed a free BBQ and refreshments, a perfect way to connect and celebrate community.
We love seeing whānau getting involved and exploring new opportunities. Events like this remind us how important it is to come together, learn, and support one another.

Paiheretia Event Recap:
George “Gotty” Ngau

In late October, Te Hau Ora O Ngāpuhi hosted an inspiring Paiheretia Event at our Kaikohe Hub with guest speaker George “Gotty” Ngau, a former high-ranking Black Power member turned Christian rapper and motivational speaker.
George shared his powerful journey of hope, transformation, and choosing a new path through God, speaking openly about his upbringing, gang life, prison, and how his faith reshaped his life. His storytelling and rapping had everyone engaged, including attendees with personal connections to gang life.
The event began with an introduction by Scott and a karakia from Matua Monty Tito. Towards the end, George offered one-on-one karakia, giving many whānau a space to reflect and receive guidance. The afternoon finished with a BBQ, bringing everyone together to celebrate community and connection.
Event Outcomes:
- Strengthened engagement with whānau, especially tāne who have been through Paiheretia or Whakaoranga Hub
- Built stronger community networks
- Shared uplifting messages of transformation
- Created a positive wairua and atmosphere
A heartfelt and inspiring day that reminded us of the power of hope, faith, and community support.
